Recent Events – Bigfoot Goin to Rock the Rox (Leave No Trace) – June 2026
Bigfoot and Leave No Trace Education Team Up for the 6th Year At Roxborough
Roxborough’s Leave No Trace Team held our sixth annual Bigfoot Goin’ to Rock the Rox event this year, bigger and better than ever, bringing together families and outdoor enthusiasts for a day filled with fun and education. Volunteers, passionate about the outdoors, helped educate nearly 500 visitors at various educational booths, which were thoughtfully designed to highlight essential Leave No Trace principles such as Leave It As You Find It, Keep Wildlife Wild, and Know Before You Go. An engaging atmosphere for learning with interactive activities and displays was created for all who participated. Roxborough’s own ‘Sasquatch Singers’ performed a variety of spirited campfire songs for guests, filling the air with joyful melodies, while our special visitors, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s mascot Elbert the Bighorn and the elusive Bigfoot himself, roamed the patio, captivating the attention of both children and adults alike. Thanks to South Metro Fire for their unwavering support of our event and for making this another successful year, showcasing the beauty of our natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations!

Recent Events – Volunteer Appreciation/Friends Meeting – December 2025
The Annual Friends Membership Meeting and Park Volunteer Appreciation took place on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Approximately 60 people attended and enjoyed an update from Friends, Holiday goodies, the Sasquatch Singers, and Park Senior Ranger, Joe Herman. Joe updated us on park happenings including:
✓ A new Admin staff to manage the visitor center and coordinate volunteers is hoped to be hired in Feburary.
✓ Renovation of the restrooms in the Visitor Center to replace the existing facilities with 4 self-contained restrooms.
✓ A new maintenance facility is being planned and will be located below the entrance station.

Holiday Service Project – the Backpack Society – December 2025
440 Pounds of Food, $794 Donated
Thanks to your generosity, we donated 440 pounds of food and $794 in monetary contributions—support that was deeply appreciated by the organization and the families they serve. THANK YOU all for your generosity!
To put this into perspective, the Backpack Society requires about 2,000 pounds of food each week to meet student take home needs. During Thanksgiving week 2025, that number rose to 10,000 pounds, with Winter Break expected to require the same or more. This highlights how vital our collective effort truly was. Their mission is to remove food insecurity as an obstacle for children so they can grow, learn, and thrive.
We are grateful for the opportunity to support such an extraordinary organization and proud of the Roxborough State Park community for making a difference through our 2025 Holiday Service Program!

Recent Events – Boo! – October 2025
Boo! is a family friendly trick-or-treat event at Roxborough State Park where kids can wear their costumes and learn about the “spooky“ things in the park. Nature doesn’t have to be scary! Volunteers, kids, and parents alike had a great time learning about bats, spiders, skulls, owls, vultures/ravens, poisonous plants, rock formations that just so happen to resemble witches, and more! In 2025, 314 visitors joined us for the festivities. We’re so thrilled that we’ve already planned next year’s event for October 24, 2026 from 12-4. Find more details in the ‘Events’ page.

Recent Events – 50th Anniversary and Pavilion Dedication – September 2025
An evening of gratitude was enjoyed by the members and and the community partners of the Friends of Roxborough State Park to commemorate the park’s 50th Anniversary and to dedicate the new Education Pavilion. Dining on delicious food provided by Arrowhead Golf Course, we welcomed over our Friends members, the board of trustees from the Colorado Parks Foundation, executive staff from Sterling Ranch, and officials from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. While the pavilion itself was not completed by this night, we celebrated the education mission of Roxborough State Park, and thanked all that contributed to the pavilion. It was a beautiful evening among the rocks.

We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited Education Pavilion project is complete!
The Friends of Roxborough State Park is very pleased to announce that the long-awaited Education Pavilion project is complete. We want to thank our many donors and supporters, including the Sterling Ranch Community Advisory Board and the Colorado Parks Foundation. Please visit the park and see firsthand, the Education Pavilion that will allow the park to host school groups for years to come and still allow our visitors to enjoy the scenic views from the Visitor Center patio.
Recent Events – Girl Scouts Love State Parks – September 2025
3rd Annual Event with the Girls Scouts!
Members of the Leave No Trace team hosted almost 200 girls, their parents and siblings at “Girl Scouts Love State Parks” on September 14! We featured the principles “Trash Your Trash” and “Keep Wildlife Wild” with turkey vulture, eagle and bear necropsies, a trash decomposition guessing game, Principle Jeopardy, displays of bear pelts, skulls and scat and educating everyone about bears going through hyperphagia. The super high energy of the girls carried us through a busy 4 hours!
Roxborough State Park Redesignated as Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site – July 2025
Leave No Trace recently announced the redesignation of Roxborough State Park as a Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site, an honor awarded to sites, organizations, and programs that demonstrate excellence in implementing the Leave No Trace principles, which are essential in minimizing the impact of natural resources and ensuring a sustainable future for natural areas. Roxborough State Park originally earned the recognition in 2018 and was redesignated for its role as a leader in promoting responsible enjoyment in the outdoors.

Five Years of Supporting Leave No Trace Education at Roxborough
Roxborough’s Leave No Trace Team held our fifth annual Bigfoot Goin’ to Rock the Rox event this year, welcoming nearly 500 visitors. Volunteers hosted educational booths highlighting Leave No Trace principles such as Leave It As You Find It, Keep Wildlife Wild, and Know Before You Go. Roxborough’s own ‘Sasquatch Singers’ performed a variety of spirited campfire songs for guests, while our special visitors Smokey Bear, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s mascot Elbert the Bighorn, and Bigfoot himself roamed the patio. Thanks to South Metro Fire for supporting our event!

Summer Concerts – Danielle Ate the Sandwich – June 2025
Danielle Anderson of Danielle Ate the Sandwich gave visitors a beautiful and soaring performance from the patio of the Roxborough Visitor Center. Playing songs from throughout her musical catalogue, Danielle added color, humor, and emotion to the backdrop of the setting sun over the rocks. To make the event extra special, Dainelle even performed a new song, written just for Roxborough. It was an evening we’ll never forget. Thank you Danielle for this one-of-a-kind performance!
