The patio of the George T O’Malley Visitor Center has always been a place where visitors, school groups, families and friends have gathered. Hosting everything from sunny afternoon picnics to Volunteer get-togethers, to Boy Scout Eagle Ceremonies. In the summertime, this spot can become very hot. In 2021, the Friends of Roxborough State Park helped purchase and install a ‘Shade Sail’ which is a removable sun blocking feature that enables visitors to enjoy the stunning views from the patio while also avoiding the sun’s rays. The Friends of Roxborough State Park also raised funding to procure a handful of benches to encourage groups to use this area.

Near the patio, a beautiful Legacy Garden has been planted and landscaped to help honor the time that many volunteers and staff have given to this wonderful park over the years! This revamped patio helps welcomes visitors to Roxborough and encourages them to relax and enjoy the area between hikes and activities.
